Research

Research involves on-farm trials on different flowers. In addition a nematode research was done to identify species that attack flowers in Uganda. This was to encourage growers consider the option of using substrates versus soil in flower production.

Development

Development by growers includes study groups organized by the Centre for Export Promotion (CBI) in Netherlands. Growers share experiences and ways of improving production on their individual farms. In addition issues like man-power handling as well as profitability and benchmarking on the farms are discussed.

UFEA follows the Code of Practice which is in compliance with the MPS and EUREP-GAP standards. The Code of Practice addresses issues pertaining to:

• Workers health and safety

• Fair remuneration and working conditions for employees

• Consumers health and safety

• Control of environmental degradation

• Environmental conservation
